What is HeartMentoring?

HeartMentoring views the physical heart, its beat and rhythms, as the coordinating signal for mental and emotional health. Using heart rate variability assessment, we can determine overall mind/body balance and imbalance. This physiological substrate is the primary background signal against which we make choices, react, communicate, connect, etc.

I use many different approaches for mentoring sessions. This is not a one-size-fits-all approach, but rather a collaborative effort guided by your own intuitions and needs. If there is one place I focus, it is on the heart. My work is based on the insights gained from practicing Heart-Rhythm Meditation for the past 8 years. In this HeartMentoring work, I see the physical heart as the access point to the emotional and spiritual heart. In addition to Heart-Rhythm Therapy, I use emotional acupressure (Emotional Freedom Techniques™), Whole Hearted Healing practices, Tapas Acupressure Technique, Focusing work and much more. This work is led by the constant referencing of your own heart, which is what gives this work depth and unity.

There are 3 main areas that we look at each session: health, relationships, and accomplishment. All parts of your life (present and past) and dreams for the future can be part of what we explore (nothing is dismissed as unimportant if it is coming up for you). Sometimes the most "childish" temper tantrum can be a gold mine of insight and healing. Honesty is the key. Of course this work is completely confidential.

So, how do the sessions work? You and I will set a day and time to "meet" either over the phone or in person. Before that date (and between monthly sessions) I would like to get an email update from you on how things are going, how the practices are working (or not working), and specifically where you're at in terms of health, relationships, and accomplishment (moving ahead with what you want next in your life). We use positive changes in these 3 areas to guide us with practices and to fine tune the practices.

Initial session runs  90 minutes; follow-up sessions are 60 minutes. Generally you give me a brief update on how the practices went, and then we look at what’s coming up as a pressing issue/need right now. My goal is to teach you (during the session) various tools for self-transformation, as we apply them to the actual issues of your life. Sometimes I may lead a guided meditation during the session. I will give you copies of any protocols that we use, again with the idea to teach and help you gain confidence and mastery to use the tools on your own.
